Chaos V-Ray is a 3D rendering software that uses ray tracing to create photorealistic images and animations. It is used by architects, designers, artists, and VFX professionals in a wide range of industries, including film, television, games, and product design.

V-Ray is known for its accuracy, speed, and versatility. It can be used to render complex scenes with a high degree of realism, and it can also be used to create real-time interactive visualizations.

Deciding if V-Ray can work for you or if it will work for your software of choice can be difficult to navigate. This guide will help you find the V-Ray version that works for your needs.

2. Are You A Student or School?

If you are a student, the V-Ray Education license is a cost-effective option for you to get an annual V-Ray license at a fraction of the commercial cost. The V-Ray Education license contains V-Ray for 3ds Max, Maya, SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Cinema 4D, Unreal, NUKE, Houdini, Chaos Cosmos material library, and floating licenses for Chaos Phoenix, Chaos Player, and Chaos Scans along with 20 free Chaos Cloud Credits.

3. Do You Have One Primary Workstation (Computer)?

V-Ray Solo (Fixed) - If you are a solo artist using one workstation, V-Ray Solo is the better option for you. V-Ray Solo contains V-Ray for 3ds Max, Maya, SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Cinema 4D, Unreal, NUKE, Houdini and the 3D asset library within Chaos Cosmos. V-Ray Solo is a more cost-effective option for non-studio based customers.

V-Ray Premium (Floating) - This will determine if you need a floating or fixed license. A floating license allows you to install V-Ray on more than one workstation and use one at a time. For instance, if you have a work desktop and a personal laptop that you need V-Ray to work on, instead of buying two licenses, you can purchase one floating license and use it interchangeably. If this description fits your workflow, you will need V-Ray Premium. V-Ray Premium contains V-Ray for 3ds Max, Maya, SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Cinema 4D, Unreal, NUKE, Houdini, Chaos Cosmos material library, and floating licenses for Chaos Phoenix, Chaos Player, and Chaos Scans along with 20 free Chaos Cloud Credits.

4. Do You Need V-Ray For A Single Project Or Several?

Now that you have decided if you need V-Ray Solo or V-Ray Premium, the next step is determining the length of the license you need. If you are using V-Ray for a single project, a 30 day Monthly license term would be the choice for you. If you think you'll be needing V-Ray for more than a single project, an Annual license is the most cost-effective option. Lastly, if V-Ray is a long-term solution for your rendering workflows, a 3yr license locks in current pricing and insulates you from future price increases.

5. Are You On A Deadline?

If you need to pack on rendering power to get your project done on time, V-Ray Render Nodes are an incredibly useful add-on that allows decreased render times to get your project done in the most time-efficient manner.

The number of render nodes that you need will depend on the complexity of your scene and the desired rendering speed. However, even a few render nodes can make a significant difference in the rendering time. Render Nodes are available in monthly, annual or 3yr license terms.
