Chaos Corona 13 Is Here: Smarter Rendering, Stylized Looks, and Real-Time Speed

on

The highly anticipated Chaos Corona 13 update is officially live, and it’s bringing a new level of creative control, faster rendering options, and smart workflow enhancements tailored for 3D artists and architectural visualizers.  Whether you work in 3ds Max or Cinema 4D, Corona 13 delivers tools that help you create more, wait less, and collaborate better.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s new and why this release might be the biggest upgrade yet.

What's New in Corona 13?

1. Go Beyond Photorealism with Toon Shading and Outlines

Corona 13 introduces powerful Toon and Outline materials, letting you break away from photorealism when needed. Perfect for early-stage concept development or stylized visual storytelling, these materials offer flexible control. You can apply them across your entire scene or only to selected objects.

Now you can present concepts without committing to specific materials or produce bold, artistic visuals straight from your 3D scene.

2. Real-Time Animation Rendering with Chaos Vantage Live Link

Render animations significantly faster using the new Vantage Live Link.  Built for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D users, this integration lets you harness GPU-powered real-time rendering with Chaos Vantage.

Key Features Include:

  • Support for keyframe, skeletal, and cloth animations

  • Compatibility with particle simulations

  • Ideal for both draft reviews and final production

Corona 13 bridges the gap between high-quality output and real-time speed.

3. Scatter Clusters for Faster, More Natural Distribution

Working with large vegetation or asset-heavy environments just got much easier.  Corona’s Scatter Clusters feature lets you group and control scattered objects using three intuitive modes:

  • Generate mode: create clusters using procedural noise

  • Color Map mode: control clusters based on a texture map

  • Layer Paint mode: hand-paint distribution directly in 3ds Max (coming soon for Cinema 4D)

Design natural landscapes and complex compositions faster and with greater control.

4. New Thin Film Layer for Realistic Surface Effects

Add realistic iridescence and rainbow effects to your materials with the new Thin Film Layer in the Corona Physical Material.

It can be used for:

  • Soap bubbles

  • Oily surfaces

  • Anodized metal

  • Dichroic glass

No need for complex shader setups, just adjust the Thin Film parameters.

5. AI Enhancer and Firefly Removal: Smart Tools, Perfect Renders

Corona 13 puts finishing touches at your fingertips with two new tools:

  • AI Image Enhancer: Clean up vegetation and people in your render without altering architectural details.

  • Firefly Removal:  Eliminate bright pixel artifacts using new Simple or Advanced modes.

Polish your final images without needing external editing software.

6. Better Collaboration with Enscape and Cosmos Asset Variations

Corona 13 improves cross-software workflows:

  • .vrscene Import from Enscape:  Begin in Enscape, finish in Corona using V-Ray as a bridge

  • Cosmos Asset Variations: Now includes season-based vegetation and clothing changes for people assets

Collaborate with your team more easily and get the exact look you want within the asset browser.
